SimGames.net - We're Moving! | Thursday, August 12, 2010 by ManagerJosh
Greetings:

The web server we are on is close to 7 years in age. During its lifetime, we've had a few tweaks and upgrades, but finally no amount of updates could keep up with the growth we've experienced. In an effort to maintain our goal towards excellence, we've deployed a brand new web server to replace our aging system.

Kevin has been working hard in the background the last few weeks putting together the last few pieces of a brand new server, and after extensive testing, we're ready to move everyone.

The performance has been absolutely brilliant.

The question you might be asking: How does this affect me?

It affects you on several levels. But most importantly, we need to coordinate the move with each of you.

First of all, please open a support ticket at http://helpdesk.simgames.net and specify what assets need to be moved to the new server. This includes web, SQL, etc. The entire migration process is being done manually.

Second, users with domains will need to have their DNS servers updated for the transition process to be seemless.

Third, we've observed several unusual quirks with web applications such as WordPress. We will need to work with everyone to make sure your sites handle the transition well.

Note: We're using this time to remove inactive members and reallocating resources to members. ACCOUNTS that DO NOT CONTACT US BY SEPTEMBER 1, 2010 WILL BE DEEMED INACTIVE AND WILL NOT BE MOVED.

Regrettably, certain things will be need to be recreated manually, such as email. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.

Our goal is to make the transition as smooth as possible. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us through the helpdesk at http://helpdesk.simgames.net

All the best,
ManagerJosh

New York Transport Maintenance | Tuesday, April 6, 2010 by ManagerJosh
At approximately 1 AM CDT on April 7, 2010, the provider of our transport services between Chicago and New York facilities will be performing service affecting maintenance on active WDM gear. This maintenance will result in periodic interruptions of network connectivity between these facilities. The window will last 1 hour, concluding at 2 AM CDT.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this maintenance may cause. Please contact us at our helpdesk if you have any questions.

900,000+ End Users Added to Network | Friday, January 22, 2010 by ManagerJosh
Today we have just turned up a major new transit customer, Wiscnet, Wisconsin's Research and Education network. This network connects over 400 sites counting for over 900,000 end users. That is 900,000 end users that have direct and easy access to your sites and servers, with no intermediary networks. Not many web hosts, dedicated server providers, or colocation providers can offer so many end users, directly on-net. We consider this relationship to be a great benefit to Wiscnet and it's members as we provide additional and complete network connectivity to them, but also a benefit to our existing customers due to the increased scope and diversity of our network as a whole.

Wiscnet is a 501c3 non-profit member organization providing network access to it's members. There are over 400 higher-ed, K12 school districts, library systems (each one serving 15-40 libraries), city and county governments, and the Wisconsin state government that are WiscNet members. This includes all 26 University of Wisconsin campuses, the entire Technical College system, and about 70% of the K12 school districts in Wisconsin. A list of their members can be found at:

Core Network Maintenance - January 15 | Wednesday, January 13, 2010 by ManagerJosh
In order to simplify BGP and increase the efficiency of InterNAP FCP routing decisions, we will be doing maintenance on all core routers across our network between 12AM and 3AM Friday, January 15. This maintenance will likely result in some periods with frequent route changes, thus increased latency, and potentially some packet loss. There should be no downtime and redundancy will be maintained throughout the maintenance window. This will potentially affect all members, across all our sites and our hosted sites.

August 22 Outage | Saturday, August 22, 2009 by ManagerJosh
We'd like to apologize for the recent outage here at SimGames.net. We pride ourselves in trying to ensure we maintain excellent uptime that rivals paid competitors.

Unfortunately this wasn't the case as we experienced a Power Supply Failure earlier this morning. That resulted in a 10 hour outage for our web server. Our control panel server, SQL servers, DNS and Mail servers continued to operate despite the web server being offline.

All services have been restored and we will continue to do our best in maintaining excellence here at SimGames.net
